SCOPE
BID DATE CHANGED. The Continental Ranch Regional Pump Station (CRRPS) was built by the developer of the Continental Ranch subdivision in 1988. The station was designed for the ultimate installation of four pumps, with each pump capable of pumping a design flow of 2.78 MGD. Initially only two pumps (2 & 3) were installed. Subsequently, construction of the 18-inch diameter HDPE force main was completed in 1997 and the Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (RWRD) placed the pump station in operation in September, 1997. The CRRPS has a present capacity of 2.36 MGD and delivers an average of 1.8 MGD to the Tres Rios Wastewater Reclamation Facility (Tres Rios WRF). Since the pump station was put into operation RWRD has noted a number of operational and maintenance deficiencies. For example, pumps 2 and 3 clogged on a regular basis. As a result, a third pump, a Fairbanks-Morse, was installed in 2000 to assist in alleviating the continuous clogging and associated manpower requirement. Evaluations performed in the past by Consultants highlighted all the facility’s related deficiencies: pumping systems, non-existent safety and alarm systems, electrical code violations, inadequate lighting, inadequate ventilation/air conditioning, NFPA 820 noncompliance, motor control center (MCC) electrical controls deficiencies, structural defects, additional piping to facilitate the installation of a future additional force main, lack of flow management (by-pass) capability, and inappropriate working areas. Recently CRRPS experienced failures with 2 of the 3 pumping systems and emergency repairs were required. The Fairbanks–Morse pump was repaired, and all the replacement Flyght pumps for this project were purchased. One of the Flyght pumps (#1) was installed in accordance with the project plans and specifications. The project plans (R-2014-079 & G-2014-078) and construction project documents will finish correcting these deficiencies, resume the installations of the new pumps, and will provide a facility capable of operating all the way to build up, during the development of the surrounding communities.
