SCOPE
The Federal Highway Administration, Central Federal Lands Highway Division (FHWA-CFLHD), in coordination with the National Park Service, Mojave National Preserve, is proposing improvements to approximately 56.5 miles of roads within Mojave National Preserve in San Bernardino County, CA to improve safety and visitor access. Improvements primarily include resurfacing, restoration, and rehabilitation, and work is included on the entire 19.3 miles of Kelso-Cima Road, 22.3 miles of South Kelbaker Road, and 14.9 miles of Morningstar Mine Road. The Kelso-Cima and South Kelbaker Road improvements consist of full depth reclamation of the existing pavement with placement of new asphalt pavement, increasing the roadway width to a consistent 26 feet, minor horizontal/vertical roadway realignment (reconstruction) in select areas, reinforcing 48 low water crossings (11 on South Kelbaker Road and 37 on Kelso-Cima Road), and improving safety with longitudinal and transverse mumble strips, signing, pavement markings, and paved pullouts. Low water crossings typically consist of buried concrete barriers with riprap revetment. https://sam.gov/workspace/contract/opp/af6ac1920200468a85a636cca550df05/view cflcontracts@dot.gov
