SCOPE
The CAWCD operates and maintains the Agua Fria River Siphon (Siphon), located in North West Peoria, Arizona, north of State Route 303 beneath the Agua Fria River. The 21-ft diameter steel pipeline is about 9,800 feet long and buried up to 50-feet below the river invert. This steel pipeline is a replacement for the original prestressed concrete pipeline which was abandoned in place on the South side of the active Siphon. The steel replacement pipeline was put into service in 1997. The interior lining of this pipeline is Amercoat 78HB coal-tar epoxy, with a specified minimum thickness of 24 mils, applied in the field after the pipe was installed. The specified profile for the steel is 2 to 3 mils. The thickness of the steel substrate varies with between 0.53-inches and 1.07-inches, based on hydraulic pressure and cover. The CAWCD is seeking a qualified industrial coater to perform repairs to the liner predominantly in the invert on the Agua Fria River Siphon. Repairs will generally consist of removal of existing coal-tar epoxy lining where indicated, remove sediment, surface preparation, and application of a 100% solids epoxy coating system. The new epoxy will be tied into the existing coal tar epoxy the entire length of the Siphon. The repair area will be eight (8) to ten (10) feet wide centered on the damaged area of flow (generally on the invert) with roughly one (1) foot for tie in on each side. This repair strategy was successfully executed on a similar pipeline in 2019. tbearden@cap-az.com
