SCOPE
State funding has been authorized by Title 7, Chapter 201, Agriculture Code of Texas, and Title 31, Part 17, Chapter 529, Texas Administrative Code for this project. Site No. 43 is a single purpose flood retarding structure that was designed and constructed as a low hazard dam in 1981 on Blue Creek. The site is approx. 0.5 miles north of Aurora, Texas and is situated about 1.6 miles west of U.S. Hwy. 81. Upgrades to the existing structure include maintaining the existing principal spillway crest and normal pool elevation; adding additional rock riprap on the upstream slope; raising the embankment by 3.5 feet with compacted fill to an elevation of 784.0 feet, flattening the downstream slope to 3H:1V; extending the embankment through the existing earthen auxiliary spillway; constructing a roller compacted concrete auxiliary spillway over the embankment along the existing principal spillway alignment with a stilling basin on the downstream end; grouting portions of the existing principal spillway conduit in-place and removing the existing riser; and installing a new principal spillway consisting of a 48-inch conduit and covered baffle inlet riser offset to the right of the existing alignment. Performance time for completion of this contract is 307 calendar days, federal holidays and weather days not included. Estimated magnitude of work is between $5 million – $10 million.
