SCOPE
UPDATE: NO AWARD ANNOUNCED 9/5/14: The City of Mesa Solid Waste Department is in the process of converting their collection fleet to CNG. The City’s current infrastructure is not capable of fueling a large CNG fleet; therefore, new CNG fueling systems are required. Two separate locations are included with this project: the 6th Street Service Center located at 310 East 6th Street and the East Mesa Service Center (EMSC) located at 6935 East Decatur. The Solid Waste Department future needs necessitate room for growth. Solid Waste expects to have 18 CNG fueled vehicles delivered by FY 14/15, with an ultimate fleet of 69 CNG fueled vehicles between the two sites. Solid Waste anticipates splitting the fleet as evenly as possible by January 1, 2016; however, the design of the facilities should be able to accommodate 40 to 45 vehicles at each location including parking, servicing, and fueling. A temporary CNG fueling station has been installed by the City of Mesa at the 6th Street Service Center which is anticipated to be used and to remain in service until the proposed permanent improvements can be designed and constructed. The temporary fueling station may then be relocated to the EMSC. The Fleet Maintenance buildings at both City service centers will also need to be retrofitted with equipment allowing mechanics to service the CNG fueled vehicles. The existing facilities at the EMSC may be expanded to accommodate 40-45 solid waste department personnel and possibly additional service bays. Additionally, the existing building will require remodeling to accommodate additional staff and department needs. A separate space planning analysis has been completed which identified staff needs.
