SCOPE
The transmission main from the North Water Treatment Plant (NWTP) west to Cooper Road along the Western Powerline Trail and Western Canal is critical to the Zone 1 water system. This infrastructure was installed in the early 1990’s and is AWWA C303 bar-wrapped concrete cylinder pipe with a small segment of AWWA C151 ductile iron pipe immediately adjacent to the NWTP. This alignment consists of 2,000 feet of 48” DIP, 10,700’ of 36” CCP and 10,300’ of 24” CCP. The 36” pipeline experienced a failure in 2018 raising concerns over the integrity of the pipe, lack of thrust restraint and failures of the existing valves and air release valves. This project proposes to complete replacement of failed isolation valves and appurtenances and concurrently complete a condition assessment of the pipeline. This assessment shall investigate the condition of the pipe, cathodic protection system and thrust restraint with the final deliverable being a report conveying the results of the assessment, recommended rehabilitation or replacement projects with cost estimates and project descriptions. This report will be utilized for future budgeting purposes and project implementation for this critical infrastructure.
