SCOPE
The South Coast Water District (District) operates the Beach Interceptor Sewer Tunnel located between Three Arch Bay and Aliso Creek Beach in the City of Laguna Beach, California. The existing 6-ft by 6-ft tunnel, constructed in 1954, is approximately two miles long, extending north from South La Senda Drive in Three Arch Bay to Aliso Creek Beach. The tunnel condition is deteriorating with age, and repairs are needed throughout the tunnel to prevent a tunnel collapse; avoid sewer pipeline failures; and allow safe working conditions in the tunnel. The 24-inch Techite gravity sewer pipeline in the tunnel will be slurry filled and replaced with new pipe, in which the material has not been decided. Improvements will be performed in four phases as follows:PHASE 1: 4th Avenue Shaft and Access Tunnel to the Existing TunnelPHASE 2: Tunnel Rehabilitation – from Portal 4 (at Camel Point Drive) north to Adit 16 (Thousand Steps Beach)PHASE 3: Tunnel Rehabilitation – from Adit 16 south to Drop Manhole at end of tunnel (Three Arch Bay)PHASE 4: Tunnel Rehabilitation – from Portal 4 (at Camel Point Drive) to Portal 2 (at Aliso Beach) Megan Geer - 949-499-4555 x3134 mgeer@scwd.org
