AGENCY
Phoenix
ESTIMATE
$14,000,000
SCOPE
Award 1/7/14: The Val Vista Water Transmission Main is a pipeline originally constructed in 1972 and located in the cities of Tempe and Mesa, AZ. The original pipeline was constructed of Pre-Stressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe and over the course of 35 years has started to show signs of potential failure due to corrosion of the reinforcing wire strands. The Val Vista WTM Rehabilitation Project was created to extend the service life of this pipeline by means of slip lining technology. Since 2004, three projects have rehabilitated 31,000 feet of the 66,500 feet of total pipeline identified for rehabilitation. The pipeline segments identified under this project are referred to as segments 4W, 5W, and 7W and represent approximately 6,250 feet of pipeline. Construction plans have previously been developed but will be updated with the assistance of the CMAR services solicited here. In addition, the project will require considerable coordination with Phoenix Water Operations, the City of Tempe, and Arizona State University due to street restrictions that will impact Rio Salado Parkway from west of Rural Rd to the Loop 101 Freeway. Dewatering and shutdown work for the Val Vista WTM can only occur during winter and early spring months and the project’s schedule must ensure that all portions of newly rehabilitated water main are in service prior to the month of May in any given year work is performed.
