SCOPE
The hydrologic function of these meadows, Bloomer Lake, Bluff, Groundhog, Middle Three, and Upper Three Meadows, is either degraded by headcuts and gullying or threatened by headcuts. Stabilization of headcuts involves placing boulders, cobbles, gravels, and soil in the headcut to prevent future erosion. Treatment of gullying involves: (1) filling gullied sections of stream channels with soil to raise the stream bed, reshaping the stream channel and placing rock in certain locations along stream channel for stability, (2) complete filling of gullied sections of stream channel with soil and rerouting flow to previously abandoned stream channels, or (3) sloping back stream banks to a stable angle. Associated restoration tasks include collection of rock and fill materials, collection and replanting of vegetation, spreading wood straw in disturbed areas, dewatering of stream channels to protect water quality during construction activities, and temporary access route restoration. tracymartinez@fs.fed.us
