SCOPE
The International Sonoran Desert Alliance, Inc. (ISDA) and Pima County Cultural Resources and Historic Preservation Office (County), along with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHA), are planning to rehabilitate the Ajo Train Depot (constructed in 1916). The Depot is a historic property that is part of the Ajo Townsite Historic District, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The project is located on private property on the east end of the Ajo Plaza in downtown Ajo, Pima County, Arizona. The project includes the historic rehabilitation of the Ajo Train Depot, the attached loading dock next to the railroad tracks, the connecting masonry arches north and south of the Depot (also called the East Arcade), and the connected “wing returns” on either end of the East Arcade. The work consists of repair, cleaning and remodeling the interior and exterior of the building including, but not limited to, stucco, tile roofing, painting, concrete, carpentry, finishes, mechanical, plumbing and electrical.
